With all the talk of the SUV's demise, you wonder what drastic steps the manufacturer will take to keep this profitable market alive. We see one of those steps in the 2006 Pontiac Torrent, which is built on a car chassis (not a truck, like most SUVs).
The result is a surprisingly clean design that manages to maintain a decent wheelbase length (actually a bit longer than the Ford Escape). It handles pretty well, though (speaking of handling) I do have a minor beef with the rather chappy-feeling steering wheel. Still, the 2006 Pontiac Torrent is easy to get in and out of, the seats are comfortable and there's enough headroom for somebody other than a midget. If you want to know more, we've got plenty of photos, reviews, specs and other automotive goodies. If you want to buy, we've got financing tips too.
